Background Information
Algeria does not have a specific agency or department for technical and economic cooperation. Nevertheless the country has been an active participant of regional projects of cooperation in particular of NEPAD. Algeria is one of key partners of this programme acting in a number of areas such as agriculture, trade, industry, transfer of technology as well investments in the economic sector such as hydrocarbons and telecommunications, science and technology, health education, among others. The country plays a role on the UMA – Arab Maghreb Union, Arab League, and African Union. Algeria played also important role on the Asia-African Relations and on the Arab-South America relations. The country is one of the first to host the Arab-South American Library established in Alger to promote cultural exchange among both regions. Algeria has cooperated significantly with countries in the region and globally on the fight against terrorism. The country is an active member of the G77 and of the NAM – Non Aligned Movement.
