No Credit Due: The World Bank and IMF in Africa |
|
Author: Omano Edigheji Date of Publication: 2008-11-28 Summary: The main consequence of aid-driven international development policy has been debt peonage and the annual transfer of massive amounts of capital from the Global South to the Global North under the pretext of debt (re)payment. We canvass the view that this is done in a subtle manner by conflating the interests of western capital and capitalist governments (globalism) with those of the natural consequence of global development (globalisation), which putatively benefits all humanity.
